What a weekend: thousands of visitors attended the annual exhibition ‘Einblick/Ausblick’ at the Muthesius Academy of Fine Arts in Kiel. They were able to gain unique insights in studios and workshops: in the old building on Legienstraße, in the rooms at Knooper Weg 75, in the workshop tower, in the spce | Muthesius and in the Gallery Cubeplus, more than 600 students showed the art and design they had created during the academic year.
Students design the annual exhibition ‘Einblick/Ausblick’
What makes the annual exhibition ‘Einblick/Ausblick’ so special is that it is designed and organised by students. Communication design students Karla Bartsch, Elisabeth Gerberding and Malin Peymann designed the entire look of the annual exhibition, from the logo to the posters. An extensive annual catalogue was also published for the event. Digital insights into the students’ work can be found on the ‘Einblick/Ausblick’ website.
From the stage programme to the decorations and kiosk sales, everything was planned by the students themselves
A team of twelve students also planned the courtyard festival – from the musical stage programme to the decorations, kiosk sales and food trucks to the cultural and entertaining supporting programme. Dr Arne Zerbst, President of the Muthesius University of Fine Arts and Design, welcomed Mayor Bettina Aust to the opening ceremony, who referred to the special role of the Kiel art university in her welcoming address. He expressed his special thanks to Vice-President Michael Breda, who has shaped the Muthesius University of Fine Arts and Design since 1999 – long before it became a state art university. On behalf of all those who helped, Zerbst presented sunflowers to caretakers Bernd Fischer and Bodo Ritscher.
Arne Zerbst: ‘Muthesius as a place of sensitivity and cohesion’
In his opening speech, Arne Zerbst emphasised the function of Muthesius “as a jointly designed art and design laboratory! As a place of sensitivity and cohesion, of social bridges and meeting places, and thus as a force against radicalism and polarisation, against binary thinking and the simplistic exaggerations of populists. We are a place of freedom and democracy – and we want to remain so!” he said. Because as a place where art and design are experienced together ‘we can also take a stand against isolation. We can unite in our longing for balance and equilibrium — both within ourselves and in the outside world. Our self is not alone: we are Muthesius!’
A picture gallery with photos by Elisabeth Gerberding, Richard Gutberlet and Julia Marre shows impressions of the annual exhibition and the exhibitions.
