Computer Workstations

We currently use several Mac Pro 2.93 GHz Intel Xeon Quad Core and Mac Pro 2.8 GHz Intel Xeon Dual-Quad-Core computers. For hardcore Windows freaks and for programmes which do not run on Macs, there are also four Macs in the front and rear workrooms which can be boot Windows 7, and in addition to Creative Suite and MS Office they also offer Vector Works, Rhino and on two computers AutoCAD and SolidWorks. For Rhino, Windows 7 is also installed on the computers in the front workroom.

Printers

There is a monochrome DIN A4/A3 laser printer, also a colour laser printer for DIN A4/A3 and two plotters. The use of the A3/A4 laser printer is not free of charge; payment cards must be bought from the administration. The Academy donates the paper (Neusiedler Color Copy 100g/qm). Other sorts of paper can also be used.

Scanner

There are two A4/colour slide scanners (4800dpi) and two A4/A3 scanners (1200 dpi) available.

Memory Servers and Drives

Since the workstation computers are open to all students, data are not stored on the Power Macs but on an “OpenBox” server without password protection. CD/DVD writers are also available. They are all built into the computers. At the end of each term, the IT centre wipes all the OpenBox servers. This date is announced via the Muthesius-Info mailing list.

Software

Installed on the computers are Adobe Creative Suite 5.5 and MSOffice. In autumn 2008, the current versions of these programmes were purchased. Since the summer term of 2003,  Mac OS X has been running on all suitable computers. Since May 2009, OS 10.5 has been installed and has superceded 10.3 of the OpenBox servers as the server system; after changing the server hardware to Mac Pro 2.8 GHz Dual. There is also the CAD programme VectorWorks and Cinema 4D R13 as well as special programmes for rendering and to design typefaces.

Internet Access and E-Mail Accounts

Internet access is available on all computers. Students can attach their own computers to the network by cable in almost all student workrooms as well as to several network ports in the IT Centre. Since the end of 2009 we have had WiFi. The Muthesius Academy offers enrolled students a free muthesius.de mail address, with advertisement-free services such as webmailer, unlimited storage and a spam filter. To obtain a muthesius.de address students must apply to the IT Centre and present their student ID card.
