Cultural and Media Sciences

Media sciences oriented towards the cultural sciences involve an historically variant human world- and self-relationship. Medial conditions for an understanding of reality, symbolic representation, cultural practices and artistic design are at the centre of attention. A fundamentally interdisciplinary approach includes the consideration of historical upheavals in interaction with media technology developments (media history), an alternate construction of reality by changing conditions of perception and sensory activites (philosophical reflection) and transformations of artistic design forms in interplay of the arts and their media (media theory, artistic-scientific reflection /aesthetics). The main focus is given to the areas of intermediality, staging/scenic design, media philosophy, listening culture and acoustic design.
