Just arrived: Sensing the Ocean. A Collaboration between Art, Design and Science

“Sensing the Ocean. A Collaboration between Art, Design and Science.”

Tom Duscher, Stephan Sachs, Manfred Schulz (Editors)

“Sensing the Ocean” is based on the collaboration between the Kiel Marine Research Cluster of Excellence The Future Ocean and the Muthesius University of Fine Arts and Design. The book shows how artists, designers and scientists can complement each other creatively, what differentiates artistic and scientific research, and illustrates how the interplay of competence gives rise to new insights.

Forum

The Forum for Interdisciplinary Studies at the Muthesius was founded in 1996 as an independent institution. It organises symposia, conceived and published by the professors of the Instute for the Science of Art, Design and Media and the workshop weeks as well as the students of the univeristy. Its programme of workshops and symposia presents the opportunity to take up individual themes and the intensify them thereby taking into account the current status of research of different subjects. The aim being to stimulate discussion beyond the subject boundaries and relate them to forms of aesthetic practice. The events are understood as a forum for the students and teaching staff of the Muthesius University, however they do address a wider audience of interest. Publications on the events safeguard the right to actively intervene in the discourse on art and science.
