Just arrived: Sensing the Ocean. A Collaboration between Art, Design and Science

“Sensing the Ocean. A Collaboration between Art, Design and Science.”

Tom Duscher, Stephan Sachs, Manfred Schulz (Editors)

“Sensing the Ocean” is based on the collaboration between the Kiel Marine Research Cluster of Excellence The Future Ocean and the Muthesius University of Fine Arts and Design. The book shows how artists, designers and scientists can complement each other creatively, what differentiates artistic and scientific research, and illustrates how the interplay of competence gives rise to new insights.

Centre for Publication

The aim of the »Centre for Publication« at the Muthesius University is to be both a publishing and research project. Linked to the Master’s programme in Editorial Design with a focus on Typography (Professor Annette Stahmer and Professor André Heers), the centre supervises and publishes book projects by students, teaching staff and guests of the Muthesius in the fields of Art, Design and Theory. The workshops available for studies enables a university-internal production of print materials, from traditional hot-metal typesetting via digital typesetting, pre-printing, offset, silk-screen and digital printing, up to completion in bookbinding. At the same time, the »Centre for Publication« represents an experimental platform in which the traditional role of the book designer and the term »publishing« are re-investigated in its present-day meaning. The practical and thoeretical project »Centre for Publication« was founded in 2011 by Kenan Darwich and René Siegfried. The range of publications comprises books on artists, exhibition catalogues, experimental publications in design as well as theoretical essay and lectures series of contemporary positions from theory and practice.
