Leave of absence from studies

We have summarized important information for taking a leave of absence from your studies in our fact sheet.
A leave of absence is generally possible for a maximum of two semesters during the course of study. In case of illness or care of a relative, longer leaves of absence may be granted. Students with children can apply for a leave of absence for a maximum of the duration of the legally regulated parental leave (3 years = 6 semesters).

Deadlines
If you wish to take a leave of absence from your studies, the application must be submitted during the re-registration period for the coming semester at the latest.
In exceptional cases (for example, in the case of illness), this is also possible immediately after the occurrence of the event.

Procedure
The application for leave of absence must be submitted to the Student Secretariat together with the relevant supporting documents or sent in. In case of illness, the original medical certificate must be submitted. You can find the application for leave of absence here.
You can leave your application for leave of absence in the mailbox of the Muthesius (to the right of the main entrance door of the administration building) or send it to the Student Secretariat by mail or e-mail.

Exmatriculation from the university

Upon exmatriculation, your membership as a student at Muthesius ends. Sooner or later (e.g. for the new university, the health insurance, the employer) you will need a formal certificate of exmatriculation and the proof for the pension insurance.

Exmatriculation date
Normally, exmatriculation takes place at the end of the semester (31.03./winter semester or 30.09./summer semester). In exceptional cases (such as a change of university), exmatriculation can also take place early on a date specified by you.

Procedure
For proper exmatriculation, the Student Secretariat requires your completed and signed application for de-registration as well as the complete routing slip.
By means of the routing slip, you prove that Muthesius Kunsthochschule has no (more) claims against you. Confirmations from the individuals listed on the routing slip may be obtained in person or by email. Create ONE PDF file from all e-mail responses and send it including the routing slip to the Student Secretariat (studierendensekretariat@muthesius.de) or the Examination Office (pa-bachelor@muthesius.de or pa-master@muthesius.de).

Alternatively, you can leave your application for de-registration and the completed routing slip in the mailbox of the Muthesius Kunsthochschule (to the right of the main entrance door of the administration building) or send it to us by mail.

Exceptional case: refund for a re-registered semester

In the event that you have re-registered for the coming semester and wish to end your studies before the start of the lecture period at the latest, you may, under certain conditions, receive a full or partial refund of the semester fee. You will need a formal certificate of exmatriculation for this procedure. The refund of fees is made separately at two different places.
