A curious look of one’s own viewpoint, lustful and critical, a self-created distance, allows one to scratch the surface of one’s own images.
The study of Film/Time-based Media is interdisciplinary and thus open to students of the Fine Arts and Design programmes. It can be studied as a supplementary subject, in cooperation and as a main study subject.
Time-based Media is conceived as an open class format. In addition to the teaching of aesthetic and technical fundamentals in the field of moving images, focus is given to free artistic project work. This can be classical film projects but also installation works.
The question of selecting the most adequate form, of the corresponding medium and the technical implementation play an important role here, as does the question of one’s own position and the ability to classify it in the overall cultural and art-historical contexts.
Focus is given to the fields of experimental film, video art and experimental documentary film.
A close exchange takes place with the media class in fine arts. Excursions to festivals and exhibitions supplement the course offers. The university also strives for interdisciplinary and international exchange.
The colloquium, in which approaches to work and the results are presented and discussed in groups, represents the central place of information exchange. The course “Perspektive Film” serves to present and discuss selected films and artistic works with moving images, if possible with invited guests.
The field of study Film / Time-Based Media is equipped with a state-of-the-art video workshop with a workshop manager. A studio is also available. In addition to digital technology, it is possible to work in analogue with celluloid.
